curtain shadows

This may be the height of photographic laziness. Shot from the bed this morning. No one said photography had to be hard.

Dedicated Dad

Saturday I was doing a shot with two dogs in a pickup truck going down a country road when I heard someone say, “blog shot coming behind you”. I turned around to see this dad coming down the road with his kids. Sometimes the better shot is behind you.

Henry in the chair

It’s been exactly a year since I put a picture of a cat up (see 11/15/06 post), so I think I’ve done pretty good at my “no cat photos” pledge. Henry, the psycho cat, likes to nap in my chair by the fireplace. Unfortunately for Henry, so do I. This was the beginning of last night’s standoff. I guess maybe I should call it my “one cat photo per year” pledge.

Fall

chair in leaves

I have mixed feelings about Fall. It’s probably the most beautiful season, yet it brings the most work with it. I was trimming the cedar trees along the driveway today. I had just dumped a load of limbs on the brush pile and was headed back when I saw one of the maples beside the house lit up by the last rays of the sunset. I stopped and ran in the house to grab a camera but I’m not that quick anymore and by the time I got the camera and ran around the house, the sun had dropped below the horizon. Needing something for the blog I noticed the Adirondeck chair surrounded by maple leaves. the maple tree was better, but I’ll take what I can get in a pinch.

Big Bro

Big Bro

We’ve always been lucky with neighbors (with the exception of the ones that set the duplex on fire one Christmas and almost killed me, but that’s another story). Our previous neighbors became close friends as have our current ones. I started photographing their kids shortly after we moved in in 1994. I’ve photographed two of their weddings and now I shoot the grandkids. Nathaniel is scattered throughout the blog, but this was the first time with the latest, Josephine, who is learning to walk with a little “help” from her big bro. It took a while to bond with Nathaniel, but I finally discovered the power of candy and now were best buddies.

Flotsam

It’s always interesting to see what the tide leaves behind. One morning it left the right half of a pair of workboots. I’d love to know what happened to the other one and how this one ended up on a beach off the coast of NC.

The Old and the New

Old and New

It’s time to get back to the photoblog. I got busy back in September and then lost my mojo for the blog so I took a sabatical. This weekend three of my wife’s high school girlfriends came to town for “Squealfest 2007″ and it seemed like a good time to leave town, so I headed for the Outerbanks to try and find my mojo. The last day the surf got up and these guys were heading out. I thought the contrast between the old style board and new was interesting. I remember when I was in high school I had a 9′6″ board and that was thought to be short. That’s almost twice the length of today’s boards.
